Gaining followers on a social platforms can feel like an uphill battle.
Luckily, Instagram is actually an easy place to create a loyal following no matter what type of page you manage.
In this post you'll discover how to organically grow your Instagram following.
Before we get to the meat and potatoes, here are a few quick tips to remember…
To start, you want to post consistently. Keep up with a frequency you can hold to.
Also, don't forget to respond to everyone who engages on your posts.
In addition, it's a good idea to find and engage with others who post content related to your industry, business, or brand.
Don't just simply like their photos or leave a generic comment. If you want to make an impression, and hopefully gain a new follower, leave a thoughtful comment.
Okay, now on to the golden nuggets.
This is probably the easiest way to grow your following.
If you are on Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, or have a blog, broadcast on all those platforms that you are on Instagram.
You can take a screenshot of your Instagram account and share it along with the link to your account. Or you can simply share your Instagram username in a post and ask people to follow you.
#2 Add emojis to boost discoverability
Who doesn't love emojis?
They're a fun way to express yourself and what your brand is about.
The best part is that on Instagram emojis are searchable as both a hashtag or in your user name, so people can find you based on the emojis you use.
#3 Create a photo theme to reinforce familiarity
This can be a little tough, but if you can master it you'll notice a huge difference in your following.
Think of Instagram like a digital magazine, so create content on your profile that has a uniform theme and vibe.
Crop all of your images the same way, post pictures of the same subject matter, and/or use the same filter on all of your photos.
In my personal account (@olivia.chance), I try to stick with my travel and lifestyle photos. I use the same filter on all of my photos so that my feed has a nice flow to it.
For our marketing account (@teamofchances), we like to post quotes and let our followers know when we've written a new blog. We also like to post things that will get our followers engaged, like asking a question or a fill-in-the-blank post. You'll notice that our images have the same faded look to them so that we have a consistent photo theme.
When you're deciding how you want your account to look think of the following…
What attracts you to certain accounts you follow?
Is it the color scheme they use? The content they have?
Whatever it is, try and emulate that.
#4 Add hashtags to your posts
So many people don't realize how important using hashtags are to grow their following and get more likes on their photos.
Then there are people who go hashtag crazy and hashtag #every #single #word #in #their #posts. Doing that is pretty much a waste of time and you'll probably just annoy people.
The key to gaining traction in your quest to get more followers is to use relevant hashtags.
Use hashtags that go with what you are posting about and the audience you are trying to target.
You can add up to 30 hashtags in a single post. Posts with 11+ hashtags get the highest interaction.
You can search for hashtags on Instagram and see the top posts for that hashtag and hashtags related to the one you are searching for.
Just remember to use hashtags that make sense and stay relevant to your audience.
#5 Use audience preferences to inform your content strategy
It's a good idea to go through your old posts and see which ones got a lot of likes and comments compared to other posts you have.
This gives you an insight of what your followers are interested in. Then you can weed out posts that don't perform as well.
#6 Offer “Share for Shares” to boost exposure
This is a tactic you can use to form connections with businesses on Instagram that are similar to yours and reach their followers.
All you have to do is offer to share an account or a product post that's relevant to your brand and they agree to do the same for you.
That's it. Pretty simple.
#7 Run giveaways to attract new followers
Not only will this help bring new followers, but it also gives your current followers something to look forward to.
If you have a product you promote you could give away free samples or full-sized products.
If you're an Internet marketer, you could give away free coaching sessions to help people market their business on the Internet.
Whatever you decide, ask those who have won your giveaway to tag you in a post on Instagram showing or explaining what they won to their followers. This will expose your brand and account to even more people.
#8 Create a bio that clarifies who you are
Simple, yes, but very important and effective.
This will tell people what they should expect to see from your feed and why they should follow you.
#9 Create quote graphics to reach new users through shares
Sharing quotes on Instagram isn't an unheard-of tactic, but if done right it can be an effective one.
First, you want to make sure you select quotes that are relevant and meaningful to your target audience. Once you have chosen a quote to post, you want to share the quote on a high-quality image.
If you do take the quote from someone else, give credit where credit is due.
The more your quote speaks to your audience, the more likely you'll get more shares and will reach new users.
#10 Pay it forward to increase exposure
Post a picture with either a quote, statement, or question on it, and then tag a specific follower for their input on your post. Have them post their opinion in the comments and include a reminder for them to tag another user for their input.
Your image will be tagged over and over again, which will help you reach potential followers from all over the world.
Start by adding one or two of these tactics into your Instagram marketing and see what works.
The way you engage with and how you answer and motivate people on Instagram can only help your account grow.
To turn a passive follower into a loyal follower, take time to create meaningful posts that open someone's mind. Respond to comments on your posts with thoughtful replies.
No matter what type of account you have, by following the tips above will help you build a large, loyal following.
